No matter how big they grow, they’ll always be your baby. That’s how we feel about Matchbook. Last week, our little project created to give freelancers and independent contractors in the Willamette Valley a place to be easily found by local businesses reached 100 (members, that is)! They grow up so fast.

Talented graphic designer, Tim Monson, got us there last week and we couldn’t be happier. As a surprise for being numero cien, Tim will be receiving a copy of Sell With Your Ears by our own Bill Zipp. Comes in real handy growing a small business. (And if you haven’t registered for Bill’s free marketing workshop on March 17th, that will come in real handy too.)

So if you are a business that needs the creatives, geeks, and guides that Matchbook contains, all it takes is click, click, and a boom for access to all three figures of them. That’s a load of talent. That’s our big, grownup Matchbook.

One hundred years. One hundred episodes. One hundred blog posts.

These are milestones. Benchmarks of success. Or maybe just nice, round numbers for the OCD in all of us.

How about one hundred members? We know. It has a nice ring to it. In fact, it’s the reason for this post.

Our creative talent directory Matchbook has been very successful. Since it’s inception, 82 super-talented creatives, geeks, and guides have signed up. It’s attracting the very best the Willamette Valley has to offer – exactly the people we at the MAC had in mind when we set out to create it.

But we need more. 18 more.

We could be satisfied with 82, but (blame it on our fragile egos) it just won’t feel legit until Matchbook reaches one hundred. So how do we get the last dozen and a half members to reach it? And, we hate to be picky, but we’d like them from some pretty specific places.

Here is a fact. The majority of our members are in the greater Corvallis area. That’s not a bad thing. However, Matchbook happens to be a service for Corvallis and Salem and Eugene. No doubt there is an abundance of talent in those cities. We think they should be listed too.

It’s just that finding them has been tough. So we are open to your ideas. Should we run a giveaway? A booth at the fair? Fall in behind the Slug Queen at the Eugene Celebration Parade?

Help us spread the word about Matchbook. Hey, if you don’t think it’s worth your time, no worries. We won’t be hurt. However, if you think it’s a service worth talking about, fire off your ideas in the comments.

“I found my perfect match on Matchbook. Johnathan Curry was willing to work with our non-profit budget (small!) on a database rebuild project. He understood my needs for keeping things simple, making it functional and still managed to add flair/creativity to a project as boring as a database.
Awe… that just makes us feel special. Thanks, Cynthia.

Yesterday the team convened to discuss the current (beta) version of Matchbook and to debrief the process we used for development. We noted successes and some things we might do differently next time, and we came up with a list of improvements you’ll see going into effect over the next few weeks.

As with any web app, Matchbook will never really be “done.” If you have ideas about making Matchbook more effective for you, please drop us a note and share your thoughts. Or comment on this blog post, and we’ll keep track. Thanks for your help!
